Olympic day from Buddha’s place.

One of the best things about my job is getting to travel to different places. On assignment, the situations and experiences are different. Sometimes its fun, sometimes am under pressure, sometimes it’s hectic, sometimes I suffer a lot and sometimes it’s silly.

Only two weeks after I returned from covering the Annapurna Marathon at the Annapurna Base Camp, I got to go to Lumbini. The Olympic Committee was organizing a programme on Olympic Day. Around 30 of us went on the trip, including six journalists. It was an all-day long journey to Bhairahawa in the ‘AC’ bus. A dinner party was hosted at the Committee’s Chairman’s home, which was on the way.

The next morning we went to Lumbini. The Olympic torch was lit at the Eternal Peace Flame and participants rallied to the nearby Mayadevi Temple, some 800 meters of walking. The programme lasted for around 2 hours. I traveled with 29 people all the way from Kathmandu to cover just that. It was really silly.
