Few days back I tagged along with a fellow photographer for a festival. The festival of Gahana pokhari (ornament pond to translate literally). I knew about the festival, but had never been to. The festival is about searching ornament of the god. People come with a chariot. The dip the chariot in the pond and go around it three times splashing water to the onlookers. And that’s how the search the ‘gahana’ (ornaments) of the god. And well, after that it’s a pack-up.

This morning, I was in Anamnagar waiting for the place to open where I teach photography. There were three kidswho were playing or say kicking a football. There was a heavy rainfall last night. It is obvious for puddle after rain in Kathmandu. We ‘grown-ups’ don’t like that. That is dirty for us. We avoid them. For those kids it was one of the best things to be happy about. They didn’t care about being dirty, germs or what others would think. They just knew to be happy on small things. That’s why they are kids and we are grown-ups.

Hard times

When I get to take photographs I feel happy most of the time. Some of the hardest moments I have felt are also while I’m taking photographs.
More than blurry pictures

After coming back from covering the National Games, I haven’t got many ‘assignments’ from office. That means not much shooting. And besides, I was little busy for a workshop and another photography class that will be started soon. And now I will be shooting lesser as I will be Continue reading

Evidence of my existence
Evidence of my existence, a book by Photojournalist Jim Lo Scalzo. I got this book as a gift from a friend some time back. And finally I finished reading it. This is an experience of a photographer who has travelled all around the world. This is his account on the situations he went through during his photography assignments. This book has become close to my heart as I can reflect myself emotionally. I just suggest everyone to read this book once.
Gymnastic shot
I’m not sports photographer and still I’m assigned to cover National games in Dhangadi. So, I got chance to take photos of some sports for the first time. One of those was gymnastic. The biggest pain for Nepali photographers shooting indoor is the light. To catch ‘action’ indoor is very tricky. The so many things going on at the same time in a much disorganized way, it was like I was stuck in a maze. Anyway, I could make this shot in my first ever shooting of Gymnastic game.

moment of the day
Sabita Chaudhary of Armed Police Force as she reaches the finish line in 400 meters hurdles race. This photo for me is the moment of the day on the third day of 6th National Games. Just before this race, she was disqualified in 100 meters hurdle race. Yesterday she set the new national record in the heats of 100 meters. Before this moment (in the photo) she was crying for being disqualified. She has now set a new record in 400 meters hurdle race.
